More Life Festival: An Arts Intervention
May 10 – June 8, 2008

The first book of its kind in the United States, Angels at My Door tells a story about the graces that emerge from children’s courage and hope in the face of HIV/AIDs.

More than 20 years after the first AIDS case was reported, advances in treatment have prolonged and improved the quality of life for people living with HIV/AIDS. Unfortuna-tely, it has also contributed to the myth that there is a cure for the disease. This false sense of security has resulted in a dangerous level of complacency about the spread of HIV.

Fort Worth’s three AIDS Service Organizations, along with the Fort Worth Opera, feel that it’s time for a unique, groundbreaking approach to AIDS education and awareness in our community. More Life leverages the excitement surrounding the Fort Worth Opera’s 2008 Festival, which includes Angels in America, an opera that explores the impact of AIDS on two families. Between May 10 and June 8, 2008, more than 45 arts, science and educational organizations will focus their energies and talents on programs to increase the awareness and knowledge of AIDS in our community during the first More Life Festival: An Arts Intervention.

More Life is unique due to its collaborative nature. This is the first time that Fort Worth’s three AIDS Service Organizations (ASOs) – AIDS Outreach Center, Samaritan House and Tarrant County AIDS Interfaith Network – and the Fort Worth Opera have joined together to Educate the community about the wide-reaching impact of HIV/AIDS Generate enhanced awareness of the many urban and rural resources available, and
Reduce the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS

We hope that through the More Life Festival the community at large will become engaged through a variety of educational opportunities available- theatrical presentations, art displays, educational activities, scientific displays and panel discussions. We are planning outreach efforts in all segments of the community. Venues include after school programs, libraries, arts and performance spaces across the city.

Collectively, the participating ASO’s have served those impacted by HIV/AIDS since the disease first appeared in our area in a significant way. Now, we all look forward to producing a groundbreaking approach to AIDS education and awareness in our community.
